Rolls-Royce receives US255 FP z thruster order

A few days ago, Rolls-Royce took over an order to supply the US255 FP z-propeller for San Francisco Marine Leasing, a subsidiary of Baydelta Navigation. These thrusters will advance the construction of a newly built high-performance tugboat designed by Jensen Maritime, a Seattle-based naval construction and engineering firm of the Crowley Maritime Group.
The multi-purpose tugboat being built by JT Marine in Washington was jointly developed by San Francisco Marine Leasing and Jensen Maritime.
While providing improved drag performance and increasing the range of larger ocean-going tugs, this 110-foot long tugboat has the ship assistance and escort capabilities of a smaller port tug.
It is reported that Rolls-Royce's azimuth propeller is a fixed-range propeller that can rotate 360 tons around the vertical axis, providing a full range of thrust and superior maneuverability, providing direct propulsion and in-situ turning and improving the ability to stop the ship. Design flexibility will provide freedom of positioning and shafting and reduce construction costs.
The tugboat is scheduled to be delivered to a subsidiary of Baydelta Pilot in the second quarter of 2017.
